My opinions have been changing on this subject. In the past, I have been very much on the side of art for art's sake, and I still stand by my love for beauty and plain, simple skill. However, with the emergence of image generation AI and the filtered, plastic world of Instagram, where appearance is all that matters, I find my affections drawn towards work which contains authentic meaning and thought. A machine can now replicate pretty appearances; it cannot yet make art which is rational, meaningful or expressive. I still find the obsession in the modern art world with subversion frustrating, along with its resistance to the normal human desire for the beauty of the eyes. Yet I'd prefer almost anything to the ghastly horror of eyes without sight or any glimmer of life. Therefore, my goal is to fill my work with as many of the thoughts that only a weirdo like me could have in the most beautiful way I can!

Hey, as an art teacher and painter, I think the quality of your paintings are of high quality but the work doesn't speak of any higher levels of investigation in terms of research, synthesis of information or ideas, I think they are all great studies, but are missing the element of deliberate investigative process and experimentation. Something that for sure they would be looking for, the purpose and exploration of something on a more nuisanced level.

I so appreciate that you changed your mind about the cars in the corner. Yes, we can change our mind about composition.

3 screens, so cool...and I'm jealous...my childhood bedroom had to become my whole work space, but I can save moolah and focus on painting. I'm definitely going to watch this again, its 5am and I just finished 9hrsish of painting. Stay stoked, I'm sure your routines of pure joy of NY state will come back.
